NWFL. The Greenham Tasmania Circular Head Giants stepped into the North West Football League on Saturday meeting with the Wynyard Cats with disappointing results.
The women began the afternoon’s proceedings, trailing by just one goal at the first break before this leapt out to three goals at half time.
Following the main break, Circular Head rallied to fight back the margin to nine points, claiming two majors in the third quarter. The Giants managed a final effort of two points in response to the Cats’ three points in the last quarter, falling shy, 4.7.31 to 3.3.21.
In the Under 18 action, the Cats notched three goals in the first quarter with a one goal response from the Giants. Wynyard extended their lead to 28 points by the main break as Circular Head claimed another two majors and two behinds.
The home side solidified its victory in the second half, reaching out to 42 points at the final change before claiming the 72 point win, 18.12.120 to 7.6.48.
The Reserves started the match competitively with two majors in the first quarter before the home side began to slip away as half time loomed.
The Giants claimed one goal in the third quarter but failed to hit the target in the fourth, falling 16.11.107 to 4.3.27.
The highly anticipated twilight affair kicked off between the Senior sides at 6pm as the Cats booted five majors, followed by two from the Giants.
Circular Head managed only two behinds in the second stanza as the hosts kicked a further five goals.
Finding a renewed determination after the break, the visitors secured three goals as the margin stretched to 51 points before the final score rested at 17.12.114 to 7.4.46 in favour of the Cats.
The Greenham Tasmania Circular Head Giants will host the first home game in a series of four this Saturday (April 14) against Burnie where the women will rest with a bye as the Under 18 side starts proceedings from 10am.
