Rescue. An overnight search and rescue ended well for a Smithton man missing in bushland near Corinna last week.
About 7.45am last Thursday, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter located the missing man, aged 59, seven kilometres from Corinna on the Western Explorer Road.
Police say the man was cold and fatigued but in good health having spent the night in cold temperatures with no food or shelter.
Inspector Shane LeFevre said the man did the right thing by staying close to tracks once he became disorientated. “However, it is a good example of why people entering bush areas should be prepared with adequate clothing and provisions should an emergency occur.”
The two people travelling with the man were at the scene to greet him as he was winched to safety.
The man was examined by the paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and was returned to his travelling party.
