Burn program reaches milestone

Fire. The state government’s Fuel Reduction Program recently reached a significant milestone, conducting the 500th burn.

Under this program the land equivalent of 40,893 football ovals has been burnt in the four years since it began.

The $55 million Fuel Reduction Program aims to strategically reduce bushfire risk across the state, with communities and community assets of high risk to bushfire being prioritised to ensure the safety of all Tasmanians.

The statewide bushfire relative risk has been reduced by 4.5 per cent in the four years since the program commenced, said Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management Michael Ferguson.
