CHCA. Positioned first and third on the Circular Head Cricket Association ladder, Irishtown and Marrawah finished the round with a victory.

Playing in Stanley, Irishtown met with Forest Stanley where the home side took to the pitch to start off.

Forest Stanley batsmen Neville Bellinger, Sam Poke and Matthew Izzo struggled to get the side away before Zachary Barber (40) stepped up.

Grant Samperi (18), Jade Best (16) and Iain Bruce (10) attempted to take the side to great heights however were struck all out after 29.3 overs on 125 runs.

In the second innings, Bruce (2/17) and Barber (2/20) collected wickets, as did Kayden Stein (1/26) and Sam Poke (1/28) however it was not enough to prevent Irishtown from reaching their target of 6/127 in 35.1 overs.

In the round’s second game, Trowutta Combine and Marrawah met for a high scoring affair.

Marrawah won the toss to send their opponents in to bat when Leigh ‘Bubble’ Grey scored a magnificent 157 not out retired.

The opening performance set the tone for the game, as Stuart Wells (31), Jarrod Williams (24) and Scott Williams (29 not out) followed throughout.

Marrawah bowler Jaiden Popowski (3/43) completed a hat trick, supported by Scott Fisher (1/34) as Trowutta Combine saw out the 40 overs to reach 4/278.

As Trowutta Combine spread across the field and Marrawah took to the pitch, Rocky Poke (25), John Innes-Smith (13) and Jono Arnold (25) began to build momentum.

Matthew Saward (109) challenged Grey’s effort with a classy century of his own before being run out.

Andrew Popowski (40), Jay Saward (11) and Caleb Cole (12) saw the side to the target with just one over and two wickets to spare.

For Trowutta Combine, Mitchell Heald (2/38), Jarrod Williams (2/53), Scott Williams (1/39) and Anthony Taylor (1/59) took the bowling honours while Heald claimed two catches alongside one each from Jarrod Williams and Tomas Coker.

Round 11 of the Circular Head Cricket Association season will be played this Saturday (February 10) between Marrawah and Forest Stanley at Redpa, and Irishtown and Trowutta Combine at Irishtown.
