Leisure. Bowls is a great way for people to get together and have some fun while also enjoying a little healthy competition.

Anyone who is interested in bowls but not quite sure what to expect, is welcome to give it a shot at the Smithton Bowls Club on September 22.

The season opening will offer an introduction to bowls for any new bowlers, the men’s secretary Graham Nutting said.

He said both the men’s and women’s teams were in the hunt for new players, and any player from nine to 90 is welcome.

“The green is very well grassed and looking good following extensive maintenance since the end of last season,” Mr Nutting said.

The men’s pennant starts on October 5 and the women’s several week later, with corporate bowls starting in November.

Ladies’ secretary Patsy Medwin said the season opener will have bowls clothes and accessories for interested people to look at and ladies are asked to bring along some afternoon tea on Sunday.

The office bearers for the new season are: Ladies’ president Di Pretty, secretary Patsy Medwin and treasurer Margaret Dabner. The men’s president is Graham Horne, secretary Graham Nutting and treasurer Ian Neilson.

For more details call Graham Nutting on 0427 809 331 or Patsy Medwin on 6452 1254.
