The Smithton Saints have started the Bowls North West season strongly with the Mixed Division Two team sitting in second place on the ladder after two games.
Playing East Devonport last Saturday, Trevor Bryant, Robbie Innes, Rodney O’Halloran and Terry Auld finished with a 15 shot victory to be the only undefeated rink.
The Mixed Division Four team proved a win is not far away as all rinks reached 25 or more, showing improvement.
There has been a good start to the season for the Thursday pennant bowlers with Division One gaining two points against Devonport. Margaret O’Halloran, Margaret Lane, Judy Bramich and Shirley Ennis walked over the line with a one-shot win.
Division Three shot 10 points against South Burnie with Cherylle Pedley and Irene Arnold’s rinks picking up the points.
In Saturday’s Division two pennant, bowlers had a strong showing at Wynyard against Latrobe winning on all rinks and moving back into second position.
Division Four displayed a strong performance against Latrobe with club stalwarts Kevin Stanley and Russell Hugo’s rinks gaining the wins and allowing the team to take 10 points.
While the Smithton Country Club awaits a resurfaced green, games and trainings will be played at Wynyard Bowls Club. The Smithton Saints will return to the competition following the long weekend break.
