Youth. Art About Town is a time to show off your creative side and get amongst art in your local community.
For the young people of Circular Head, there is an art and photography competition to enter your pieces of work, and see them showcased around town.
You can even put a price on the artwork or photograph and see if there are any buyers – all this in your own town!
The Circular Head Council initiative will go for the month of September but now is the time to start thinking about what you might enter.
This year there is a theme. After the bushfires of earlier this year, organisers thought the theme of ‘Fire’ may be one which gave artists an opportunity to acknowledge that period of their lives. However, the piece does not have to be directly associated with the bushfires for this competition.
Circular Head Council youth and community services officer Jodie Saville said people could take the theme any way they liked.
“It may be just a feeling, or an experience. Anything you associate with fire,” she said.
Prizes are in two categories – art and photography – and are $250 for first, $75 for highly commended and $25 for notable mention. There is also a $100 public vote.
The Art About Town competition is open to Circular Head residents aged between 12 and 25.
Entries close on Friday September 2.
