Action. A mother has started a petition to lobby the state government to change its laws following the death of her son in a workplace accident off Perkins Island.
Deckhand David Colson, 24, died in 2007 of hypothermia when the dinghy he was on sunk during an abalone expedition.
His mother, Robyn Colson, says 10 years have passed and there has been no justice for her son.
The petition asks that the government includes all Tasmanian workers in its Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, and that industrial manslaughter laws be introduced for employers found to have contributed towards a worker’s death by failing in their duty of care.
