Accolade. Following the completion of renovations totalling $1.2 million, Tall Timbers Tasmania has again fared well at the annual Cradle Coast Regional Tourism Awards.

The local business was presented as winner of the ‘Standard Accommodation Four Stars and Below – Hotel Style’ category at the awards ceremony on Thursday.

An initiative of the Cradle Coast Authority the awards were held at Pier 01 Restaurant in Ulverstone.

Tall Timbers has previously won ‘Best Hotel/Motel Accommodation’ and ‘Best Tour Operator’ in 2015 as well as ‘Best Standard Accommodation’ in 2013 and 2014.

General manager John Dabner said the award reaffirmed the commitment of his staff.

“Anyone can win an award once but to continue to win these awards you need consistency; we are being consistent,” he said.

“It’s great to see staff deliver on our promise (of award winning service). To receive recognition like this from the public for all of their hard work – it’s fantastic.”

Winners of this year’s awards were decided by independent judging company Nolan Media, who undertook site visits and reviewed entries to decide upon winners in the various accommodation, tourism and events categories.

“It was great to be using a different company this year, to be judged highly and solely from independent knowledge,” Mr Dabner said of the process, adding that several award categories had been grouped together or scrapped making the competition even more fierce.

In the past three years $1.2 million has been spent renovating 59 rooms at the Smithton resort which according to Mr Dabner has been met with positive comments.

The business now looks ahead to the Tasmanian Hospitality Association awards at the end of August.
