A place to stay

Care. Kidney transplant house

Locals requiring life-saving kidney transplant surgery are able to recover in a new ‘home away from home’ in Melbourne.

Launched in late 2014, Emorgo Kidney Transplant House in Brunswick East provides free, fully furnished accommodation for patients and their families post-surgery.

It is available to people who need to travel more than 100 kilometres to Melbourne for the surgery.

There is no fee (bulk bill only) for eligible patients who qualify for Tasmania’s Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (PTAS), and the accommodation can be used for up to two months.

Kidney Health Australia was able to purchase the property through financial support from The Emorgo Foundation.

Kidney Health Australia is a national health care charity with a vision ‘to save and improve the lives of Australians affected by kidney disease’.

As the national peak body, it promotes good kidney health through delivery of programs in education, advocacy, research and support.
