A heated chase

Over 50s. Marrawah returned to the winners’ list by beating Hobart-based Thylacinians in Spreyton at the weekend.

Thylacinians batted first and totalled 189 runs in their 40 overs, with Paul Plunkett (30ret) and G McCarthy (25) leading the charge with the bat.

For Marrawah, figures of 4/21 for Stephen Nicholls proved the best with the ball. Brett McMullen’s 0/6 off six overs was a highlight as was Gerard Blizzard’s bowling at the death, which included his menacing donkey drops.

After having a barbecue lunch, Marrawah batted in hot conditions and made the runs with three overs remaining.

Dallas Burke (43), Paul Saward (40), Brett McMullen (38) and Drew Grey (33) batted well to help steer their side to victory.

Another enjoyable day was had by all with the match played in great spirit.

Marrawah only dropped one catch, which was a big improvement on previous games this season.

Marrawah 50 and Over Cricket Club’s next game will be played at Richmond over the long weekend in March. During this trip away, players will attend a Cricket World Cup game at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.
